I dont want to go to a mechanic.....
But this is making me mad. My 89 GTA 5.7 auto has a crappy idle. It isnt thowing any codes(if you are in the seat you connect the last top and last bottom right?). Today I started it(you have to keep on the gas to get it to start) and I had the gas in a bit too much. So when it starts, it goes to 3k rpms. The SES light comes on and I am kind of happy so that I can now check and get a code. I let the rpms down to about 1k and the light goes off. I drive home and I have it parked at about 1k and I let off the gas quick. It usually dies but this time it almost does but comes back. I am pretty sure I checked the vaccum lines but if someone could circle on my pic where to check I would appreciate it.
I had my computer, not chip, go out on me last year. Should I take it to the mechanic that replaced it and get him to check it? Should that be free? if he just checks the computer that should deffinately be free correct?
Any more suggestions?
Thanks
Brian

ok
34. Low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (or MAP sensor)
what does this mean? Do I need a new MAF? new vacuum?

It means Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit (GM/SEC low) Check your air ducts around the MAF Sensor to be sure they are tight and don't have any cracks or vacuum leaks in them. Also check your throttle body to be sure it is not dirty or misadjusted.

Remove the MAF and check to see if the hot wire is in tact. If it is, clean it with carb cleaner, throttle body cleaner, something like that, then dry it. Let the car sit with the battery disconnected to clear the code, then replace the sensor and start the car. If it runs good, your burnoff relay is bad. If not, try switching the power and burnoff relays and trying again. These are the two rightmost relays on the drivers side firewall on my car, hopefully yours is similar. If replacing the relays doesn't help, the sensor may be bad. If you get stuck because your car won't restart, try disconnecting the sensor to get where you're going, it isn't necessary to run but is very important so it should be fixed.

I unplugged the maf and sprayed starter fluid in both ends and let it dry. I had the battery unplugged for about 20min. I plug everything back in and try to start the car without keeping my foot on the gas and.....
IT STARTS! it ran good and I let it idle for about 5min. The rpms would sometimes go from 700 to 500 back to 700 but it seemed fine. And no SES light.
So was the connection just crapped out? is my maf starting to crap out and that is why it is doing this?
I told my wife when she goes to work to tell me if ANYTHING happens. So we will see if it is fixed.
Thanks for the help
Brian
Also, when replacing the relays, I just go to auto zone and say I need these relays? And yes, I know there are a bunch of leaves
