long cranking
hi,
sometimes when i start my car it cranks forever, but will start eventually. most of the time it starts right up.
it does it when the engine is hot or cold, so i don't think it is heat soak to the starter, plus it doesn't crank slow.
i'm thinking it could be the cold start injector going bad, or maybe an ignition problem.
any help is greatly appreciated!

Most of our cars need oil pressure to hit a certain point before ignition is fired. My 91 and 92 RS's had this problem. In my case, when I turned the key on, the fuel pump was NOT giving you that short run to get fuel pressure up. One car had a bad relay, the other a bad brown wire from the fuse panel to the relay. Just a though..

check fuel pump (does it whirr in a timely manner? does it sound weak?), fuel pump relay, and ignition! If you suspect the ignition, it's probably because you haven't worked on it! Your car will perform better with some new plugs and wires. Get a coil, rotor, and cap as well. They aren't expensive.

yeah the fuel pump sounds good. it always pressurizes the line with no problem, i checked with a fuel pressure guage. the plugs and wires are new. cap and rotor fairly new and in good condition.
what about the cold start injector?
