327 or 400

ok, i'v been planing a built 350, but i dont have the cash for AFR heads. so iv been looking for something a bit cheaper. i can get a 327 or 400 w/ vortec heads kinda cheap.
so which would be better for a 3rd gen w/ 3.42 and a 2500-2800rpm stall.

p.s
eather of the two is a shortblock.
so i pick the cam and etc

p.s II
i need to beat a 12.6 sec 4th gen and a 91 mustang w/ GT-40P crate and stick(has not been to track since the crate was installed).

tia,
RS

Man, I love 327's, but since budget seems to be a factor for you, it would be much easier to do with a 400. But, you're still going to be stretched to knock down 12.5's.

The 400 would prefer larger primary headers than what you have. You will probably have to do something to improve traction to get its torque down to the pavement as well.

What are you doing for induction with these Vortec heads? Your current TBI manifold will not work.

P.S.: Email me so I can tell you where to ship that 327 shortblock.

We run very good times with 400 small blocks and nitrous oxide. You could easily knock back a 12.6 second car.

I can think of 73 reasons to chose the 400 over the 327.
