Sounds like the charcoal canister. Do you plan on smogging the car?

What do you plan on doing with the fuel tank vent line?

there is one line hooked up to this thing the rest are just hoses. i dont plan to take out the round thing itself because there is one line hooked up to it. but take out all those hoses since they do not need to be hooked up. so i am asumeing that line is for the tank? so the rest of them are useless for me? i just read some place that one of those hoses should go in the front port of my holley carb, should it?

You can take it out completely. If there is a vacuum line running to it (like from your carb), cap it off at the carb. If there is a radiator-type hose running to it right now, just run it into the fenderwell or something, its a vent line. Thats all you need to do and you'll have more space.

I know you dont want to screw something up, but it looks as though you're not using it at all. Cap off the vacuum lines, and ditch the canister. It wont hurt a thing.

I almost confused this with your other post about the harness plugs....I was like WTF? I replied to it too.

Anyways, I don't know what that thing is on the firewall, I don't have it on my application. However, I wouldn't be worried. You know there is a hole or two in the sheetmetal by where the canister was? Run the hose down into there (assuming its not way too long or too short), and then drive the car like you normally would. There should be absolutely no difference. If that's so, then just leave it, and don't worry about it. I'm certain you're not using that line anyway, its probably just be a vent line to the tank, which is why you should just run it out of the compartment somewhere. I remember researching this before I got rid of mine, and I think some guys took the line off at the tank, but that it allowed fuel to splash out (or the ability to), so just run the line somewhere and leave it - it should be fine.
