Blower motor hitting something?
Blower motor hitting something?
I haven't seen the inside of the blower motor. I'm going to pull the one from my other car tomorrow and put it into the T-top car. It makes a horrible sound like it's hitting a shroud. It's probably one of the only things i have left to do on these cars....guess it's about time. Anyone else ever have this problem? Do I have to pull apart the dash or just pull the blower motor?
Thanks.

The blower motor bolts on from under the hood. I think there are 7 or 8 screws holding it on, and one of them has a connector for a ground wire. Pretty easy to change out on about any GM product.
The sound could be a balance problem with the fan. It is a cage type blower, similar to a furnace fan, and a new one is usually balanced out of the box. the whole deals is pretty cheap to replace, I think I paid like $35 for the last motor and fan blade that I replaced (I'm guessing here, it's been a while!)
It could also be in the heater box a bit crooked and be hitting something. I've had that happen, too.

84,
I've had the same situation more than once. Removal of the blower assembly is really a five minute job. Once you get it out, any damage should be apparent. Ususally, the noise is caused by a dry bearing in the motor of debris in the housing, like dry leaves, etc. Don't be surprized if you find the better part of a maple tree in there...

Thanks for the help. I went outside and took the parts off the hardtop today to switch them over to the T-top car. Started working on the rear brakes and before I knew it was dark. The housing isn't cracked, however the car did sit for 3+ years and had tons of leaves and debris everywhere else in the engine bay. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Not a maple tree in there but sure enough was organic. I found two acorns looking to grow an oak tree. Plus a couple handfuls of insulation.
