Can slop in the timing chain cause overheating?
I wander because my car was running shi**y for awhile, and running hot at the same time. I replaced the radiator, t-stat, gave it a good flush, and added an extra fan in front of the radiator. (yes its turning in the right direction). Then I went through emissions. Failed badly. During my tune-up, I noticed my timing was a 5*. It was at 8* before. I reset it to 10*, gained back my performance, went through emission great, and yet it still runs hot.
Could the timing chain streching cause my timing to go off by that 3*, and if so, this means my cam is not in sink with the crank anymore. Would this cause the hot running condition???
P.S. It runs hot in town, highway, and the airdamn is in place and not torn up.

i suspose the timing could be off and cause you to over heat, but i don't think it's happening. i'd check the radiator flow ,t-stat, water pump, all the normal things. bad fan switch maybe? preasue test the cooling system and see if it holds.

Been there, done that. This is why I'm stumpt. The only other thing I can think of is the water pump. With 96k on the engine, I don't know if its orginal or not. And if it is, maybe the fins were rusted off some. When I first got the car the entire system was rusty color. Took over 30mins to flush it all out.
