Drilling out thermo bolt...

Ok went to put the hot thermo back in for winter so the car takes less than 20 min to warm up. Should take 1/2 hour but snapped off a bolt! Is it ok to just drill this out or will metal crap get down in the water jackets?? Thanks for any help/advice...

I would drill it. (and have in the past. )

The metal shavings will just settle in the bottom of the block. (have you ever pulled a block drain and seen the mud that comes out of there?? )

Thanks engineboy! You wouldn't happen to have any tips for this would you? I have about a 1/8" hole down the center of the bolt...not sure whether to use bigger sizes since i'd have to remove the plenum to get them straight...i also have a carbide dremel bit...hmmmm

Well this whole thing is rapidly turning into a nightmare...I think I'll try easyout in the morning (well, in a few hours) and/or left handed drill bits...otherwise this is a great excuse to buy that wide mouth intake manifold for myself for Xmas!! What a pain.

Do you have access to a torch??

If so just heat the area around the bolt before you use the easy-out and spray WD-40 on the bolt to cool it. This usually breaks the bolt loose from the aluminum.

If nothing works and you can't get it out,....Enjoy your new intake!!
