Starter runs "in the air"
Hope anyone can give me a hint to fix this problem.
I drive a 91`GTA 305cui 5G.
Now my problem: when the car is cold- most at morning when I start the car first the starter will run but the car will not start. I can hear the starter gear rotate its a high noise(no cranking noise) but it seems the gear isn`t at the flywheel it rotate in the starter. Then I turn the key back and make this procedure 2-4times and then it starts.
When the car is warm I don`t have problems to start.
I think the gear hang or something. Is there a way to open the starter so I can see the shaft from the gear? Maybe same grease on the shaft will help. I don`t wont to buy a new solenoid for 100$.
Maybe someone had pics how to open the starter?

i ithnk it's time for a new starter. not sure if you can buy parts for them any more, use to be machine shops rebuilt your parts on site, but not any more. it's pretty easy and straight forward to take one apart. get it off the engine and you'll see what you need to do, only a few screws hold it together
You may have a problem with the pinion gear not engaging fully (linkage wear) or the overrunning clutch (Bendix) slipping after the pinion gear engages the flywheel. Either way, the starter will need to be removed for inspection.
A new Bendix is about $20 here in the states. If you cannot get one locally for a reasonable cost, you might want to consider ordering one online and paying the additional shipping cost to Europe.
