Yes, that is the MAXIMUM safe pressure the mfg. puts on the sidewall.

Start with the door jamb sticker spec and experiment a psi or 2 at a time from there. Chances are, you won't end up more than 3 or 4 psi away from that.

Most of the tires that I've had do best on my car with 34-35 front and 32-33 rear.

i've had good luck running 35psi all around.

rb, how do you come up with such a number? is it just an experimentation thing?

Yup, just experimentation.... I look for both ends to react equally when hitting a bump like asmall step in the pavement, the correct wear pattern on the rears (too much psi will make them bald down the center), equal tire temp after a long run on the highway, etc.

After my experimentation I run 28 in the rear and 32 in the front. But then again I'm running summer only tires.

40 is definitely high. I've had mine down to 20 at the track and they look no different than at 28 on the street. Go figure. My Kumho's must have really stiff sidewalls.

It depends on the tire, low pro tires usually need a little more pressure... my kuhmos have a max of 44, i usually run 38-40 otherwise they look flat and feel flat when i drive.
