How much current does the cooling fan draw?

Well, had an electrical fire after my fan motor partially shorted out internally. Didnt seem to damage the wiring but the relay (and fan) caught fire and the relay as well as the conector are completly carbonized. I was going to get a relay to replace it but what amperage should i get? I would assume that it draws around 10-15 amps once running but...

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
A stock single fan will draw in excess of 25 amps on startup.

Pete's probably right about the inrush current. Running current should be around 12-13A, since the single fan motor is rated at 150W. You do the math... (P=IxE)

i put in a 30A relay this morning so i could use the car. It seems to do ok. Just as long as the continuous current doesnt exceed that it shouldnt burn up or anyhting. Its the stall current that will kill stuff. Without the back emf it pretty much shorts everything out. If the fan motor ever malfunctions and stalls itll probably burn up even worse this time around. Hopefully i wont ahve any more spectacular failures.

I have my single fan hardwired to a 10amp wire. It runs fine. Ive never had any problems with it and it runs anytime the key is on.

When I converted from cross fire to tpi, I wired my fans (stock TPI fans) so both come on when I turned a switch. The inrush at start-up for both fans was 70 amps! After the fans came up to speed, they pulled 28 amps.
I since wired up the ecm to control the primary fan and I still have the switch for the secondary fan.
Each fan has its own 30 amp fuse and I haven't had any problems with them blowing.

Thats how mine was wired up for the longest time. It ran, and ran, and ran, and ran, and ran some more when i drove the car since it never shut off. I did a post-mortum and found out that the commutator wore so thin that the copper cladding smeared together and caused it to short out. The coils actually got hot enough to glow! There was no trace of the insulation and the windings where blue in color instead of the usual copper color. Dont know why the fuseable link never blew out. Oh well, guess the moral of the story is i should replace the fan motor every couple of years.
