Spark Plug? "oh sh*t"

allright i'm pulling all of my plugs and wires and replacing them. And i had a stubborn one that didn;t want to come out so finally it broke loose and after the swearing and throwing of the wrench i realized that i had sheered the nut half off allowing the porcelin part to slid right out but however the other half is still firmly seated in the head. So pretty much i have the shaft of the spark plug minus the porcelin and elctrode stuck in the block with no nut. How in the hell would you get that out. I went out and bought a esay out that should pull it hopefully but then i got to thinking for starters the easy out goes in the hole quite a ways till it grabs someting. Is it going to hit anything important? And the other thought i had was duhhhhh easy out = metal shavings in the combustion chamber? Is there another way of doing this without pulling the head? Or am i SOL.

Is there any part of the metal base sticking out from the head? Or is it flush with the head?

Can you use the easy-out in the whole that's been left from the porcelin and electrode? If so, and you don't have to drill a larger hole - you should get away with tapping the easy-out nice and tight before turning it. At that point it should dig in with out slipping. Unfortunately, if it slips it will leave some shavings.

Good luck!

You actually broke everything off past the threaded part?

If that is the case, an easy out isn't going to do it. You're just going to push pieces of the spark plug that are still in tact into the combustion chamber, if you haven't already. Then, at best, you'll have the spark plug out but pieces of it still in there. I'm thinking pull the head.

I've gotten them out like that using a easy-out, you may need to heat it as well, oxy/acte if you can, MAPP gas should be hot enough also

You mean like this?

Heat, penetrating oil, and extractor, like Dave said.

It's also another good excuse to use anti-seize compound on the threads and seat.
