Spark Plug Tips

I am going to replace my spark plugs this weekend but those suckers are way down there and the compartment is cramped. Any suggestions on how to make this easier would be enjoyable. Thx.

the the easy ones from the top and then jack the car up and get the others from under the car. can't remember for sure which ones to get from under the car ,the rear 2 on each side maybe. you'll figure it out. while it's jacked up change the oil and grease it too.

the hard ones to get at are cylinders 5 and 7 unless you get under the car, which makes it a piece of cake. Cylinder 8 is a bitch. Took me & a friend 30 min to magically take it out.

I was able to change out all but #8 from the top. #7 was a bitch - I had to lie across the intake on the engine to get my hands in there. If you have real long arms, you could probably change #8 from the top too.

Neo,

I get all eight from the top, and the V-8 has all the options and emissions plumbing in place. I use a plug socket and box/open end wrench on the flats of the plug socket to get the "difficult" ones loose, then spin them out by hand. (This is one of the places that really makes me appreciate Never-Seez.)

It helps to be 6'4" and have arms like an orangutan, too. The most difficult is certainly #8, but it can be done. Access from the bottom is easier on some of the plugs, but it takes longer to raise the vehicle than contort into the engine bay, so I always just take the extra time and fight it out.
