Energy Suspension Motor Mounts
Does anybody know the part number for the energy suspension motor mount for a 1985 IROC with a 5.0L TPI? I've been trying to find out but haven't had any sucess. I know they are a pain to replace, but I just had Kenny Brown SFC installed and they rattle the against the exhaust (3" SLP cat back) when I put the car in reverse (they KB recommended replacing them)

Energy mounts are only the poly inserts, you have to reuse your existing metal shells. Expect them to raise your engine 1/2 to 1" over your stock ones.

Vibration is apparently killer. I have poly everything on my car except the motor mounts which even two custom shops around here advised me not to get unless I'm full out dragracing.
To each their own though right?

The exhaust will rattle against my SFC when in reverse but not in drive. I (as well as Kenny Brown) thinks that the torque of the engine twist the exhaust up reducing the gap between the two. Now that I think about it, if the motor mount reduces the gap in between then it might make the problem worse. Or it may just limit the amount that it moves overall. I'm going to replace the front suspension in the car in the spring (too cold right now in Indianapolis), so it would be a good time to replace the motor mounts at the same time. I guess I can take the suspension off and put the motor mounts in. Then I could check the clearance between the sfc and the exhaust (essentially place the car in reverse and see if the rattling persists).
I'm not too concerned about vibration. It is my project car. I have other vehicles to get me around!!! .
Lucky for me I know the exact history of the car (I've owned it since it was new - 2 attempts to steal the car, 1 successful (insurance totaled the car - bought it back cheap - Damage => T-top missing, power steering went out), 1 attempt to steal the stereo (stole sunglasses instead), no major collision)

poly mounts in everything here, and my expriance thus far (motorputs out 430hp) is that its no worse than if you have a poly trans mount bushing... i feel no more vibration now than i did from when i put in that bushing...

poly trans and motor mounts here (energy) and they are great. I dont notice any excesive vibration at all. I think you will appriciate the solid feel. JUST dont get solid mounts -- those are for racing only.

Chunster,
What side of town are you on? I'm on the westside.
My engine was blueprinted and balanced. I've had no problems with my Energy Suspension mounts and they'll last forever.
later,
Craig

I am running the ES poly engine mounts and have no problems with vibration. Yes they did raise the engine up quite a bit. Rememeber, by raising the engine up, you are also raising the ypipe up closer to the oil pan which is not good. Also the rest of the exhaust may get tweaked a little as well making it worse. I am not sure what kind of exhaust you have and how it is installed but look into this before you take the plunge.

the y pipe will not get closer to the oil pan since they are both mounted to the motor which is moving up as one unit
