Ok, hopefully somebody knows what to do here. A couple of weeks ago when I was leaving work, I step into my car, put the key in the ignition, and turn it. It's not turning like usual, it's just swinging around in circles like theres no resistance in the lock cylinder. I had to have the car towed home and I finally got out in the freezing cold to change the lock cylinder. I just got done changing it this morning, I put the key in, and the same thing happens.
Now my dad thinks that it's some kind of a bar that the lock cylinder turns that goes down to some wires or something like that. Does anybody else have a clue what this could be?

AcSeb,
Your upper column should look something like this:
The rack gear that engages the pinion on the end of the lock cylinder can be worn, or broken farther down in the column (like mine did). You could also have a disconnected linkage rod at the upper end of the rack or at the switch itself.
Any of the above will require disassembly of the columndown to the bowl, so plan to spend the better part of the afternoon.
