Operating Temp.

I have a 2000 Z w/all alum 5.7L. Book says it has a 180 thermostat but car allways runs 200-205. Is this normal. Car has aprox. 1400
miles.
Thanks M.J. Charbonneau

Sounds OK to me. Typically several thigns are true:

1. Temp gauges aren't very accurate.

2. Thermostats aren't very accurate either.

3. Thermostats are affected by pressure; usually the higher the system pressure, the higher their opening temp.

4. It doesn't matter whether you're looking at the LS1 (the one you have), LT1, L98, or whatever; or whether the block is aluminum, cast iron, titanium, chinesium, or even pure nonobtanium; the temp you describe is acceptable.

Enjoy the car! I'm sure it's a blast to drive.

My LS1 runs at the same temp. The only way you can get them to run cooler is to install a 160 stat and reprogram the fans with a HPP3.

Go to www.LS1.com a check out the "mods" section. They have a "fan mod" that is supposed to cool it down by making the fans turn on by a manual switch.

LS1 has a pretty good board in general.

I wish my LG4 ran that hot. I finally got around to changing my therostat this weakend and now it runs at about 130. Before it would hardly get past 100.
