Will centerbolt heads bolt up to a 1970s-vintage block?

I have a 1974 Corvette 350 that I'm converting to TBI. The current intake manifold is the single-plane Edelbrock Torker, and the current heads are of the 333882 casting. IIRC, those heads aren't terribly good -- and neither is the intake for street drivability.

My plan is to find a set of L98 (or equivalent) heads to mate to a factory GM TBI intake manifold, because I don't think that the 333882 heads will bolt up (will they?). I'm not really concerned about making every last bit of power out of this motor; I just want a reliable engine with V8 power. From the factory, this 'Vette motor apparently produced about 260 hp, which is fine for me... the vehicle that this is going in shouldn't even have a V8, anyway .

the L98 heads will bolt up to that block with no problem. If that TBI intake is '86 or older it should bolt to the existing heads with no problem, if it's '87 or newer, you'll need to drill the center 4 intake holes to get it to match up, unless you use the L98 heads. TBI isn't known for making loads of power, what do you plan on putting it in? Hope that helps

Thanks, Quick_Trans_Am. What type of computer did the pre-'87 TBI use? The same type that came on the '88 F-Bodies?

This motor is going in my Jeep Wrangler. The four-cylinder just isn't cutting it for the street. TBI will be nice in that respect, and it'll make decent torque off-road... even so, that four-cylinder rocked in low gear on hill climbs, etc.

I believe the same as the '88 TBI, but I'm not 100% sure, TBI isn't my area of expertise. But if you get a complete setup off an '87 or older, along with wiring harness and ECM you shouldn't have a problem at all.

A jeep wrangler huh? sounds interesting. I know a couple people who have done smallblock swaps in their jeeps. One time I saw one with a complete L98 in it, that was kind of interesting. Good luck with it.
