My Car Is Dead! Neep Help
My Car Is Dead! Neep Help
I get into the car, no power to anything, i turn the key, nothing happens. Interior lights/locks everything is dead. Just like it has no battery. I already replaced the battery and the Alt is only a year old. What else can be wrong with this car? Everything is totally dead any ideas and where can i find the problem???? This has happened before. Usually the car will start right back up, ill drive it for like 10 min turn off the car and come back in 5 min to turn it back on and its dead. It cant possibly be the battery, i replaced it twice already. Is there a thing called a voltage regulator on the car, if so can that be it and where can i find it...
Thanks

Have you checked your battery cables to make sure they are tight and have no corrosion? It sounds like the problem is there somewhere.

I'd say before checking the battery cables, use a voltmeter at the cig lighter. Then use a voltmeter at the battery. If they don't match then you know it's the battery cables; rather than wiggle them/tighten them, and the car works fine- you'll never know for sure if that's what fixed it. Know what I mean?

How long does it take for the bat to die?
Have the alternator tested for reverse leakgge across the diodes.
Man, you have a SERIOUS short somewhere. If the battery is being drained even while the engine is off, then find out what things are always "hot".
There aren't too many things that always have juice going to them. The alternator, the battery cables themselves, the fuse box...somewhere there's a wire with the insulation worn off and touching bare metal.
