what is going to do the best for a 400+ hp street motor for the money? will be driven mainly on the street and occasional track passes. it is a sbc 408 that I'm not looking to spin past 7000 or so.

After reading NUMEROUS posts thru the search, I am considering the LT1 or the Holley Stealth Ram. The miniram justs seems like too much money for the ability.

What do you recommend?

I got the holley stealth ram for about $500...? are you getting the manifold or the whole fuel injection setup? I had TPI to begin with, so I just needed the manifold/fuel rails...

well I am looking for a good tpi car that is either hardtop or convertible. currently I have a tbi and I am not wanting to mess with the tbi system. So I am basically looking at the entire system just in case I dont find a good tpi car.

If we're talking 400rwhp then the MiniRam. It's not a clone of the LT1 intake. It sites higher, has slighly longer runners, and is an air-gap design.

As usual, you're right. I did say "basically a clone", intending that to mean the concept of a de-tuned intake was used, just like the LT1. An LT4 is slightly higher as well, but there aren't many surplus LT4 intake floating around.

That and the runners are shaped to better smooth the transition of flow from the TB bores to the individual runners .

Have you considered a carburetor and carb intake for $300 ?

did I consider a carb and intake? yes, but not for long. and $300 wont cut it for 400 hp. try $400-600 for the 750 cfm carb, $150 for the intake, and more money for fuel press. regulator, jets, metering blocks, etc.

besides, this will be a show car when completed. and I think all the intakes that I listed will look much better under the hood than a carb. and there is another plus, hood clearance. I hear the LT1 and miniram clear the stock hood. I dont know about the HSR.

do you guys think that the MR is worth the extra cash over the LT1 in my application? or is the HSR the "middle ground" and worth the money over the LT1 but still cheaper than the MR?

I am looking for the best deal for my application and any help is appreciated. thanks

You can reasonably expect 400rwhp with a good HSR combo. For instance....

Mild 224 224 roller cam, AFR 195s, 355 = 381rwhp/433rwftlbs

I'm not arguing either way - I'd rather have the mini ram.

you can get an lt1 intake for 400 complete if you already have a tpi setup at lt1.com, or you could buy a harness to convert your tbi to tpi, swap ecu's and bolt the lt1 on fairly cheap..

my HSR cleared the hood with no problems. if I needed a complete setup...I'd get DFI, and either the LT1 or the Holley StealthRam. Stealthram looks mean under the hood.

You can find TPI setups on ebay for like 300 dollars...add the 500-600 dollars for a bare HSR setup, and you're still quite below the price of LT1 or anything else. It's all a matter of opinion, but the HSR setup can be had relatively easily and cheaply without having to search for a donor TPI car.
