I guess my car hates the cold..Oh yeah HELP!!!!
For a while my 86 Camaro has been running a little high. When I start it up, it revs at about 2000-2500 rpms. After about 10 minutes of letting it warm up, its still idling high until I drve it a few miles in D. The major problem is that it takes a little more time to stop the car if its not fully warm. Also it doesnt like to cut off if the engine isnt warm. Thanks
I need a little mor info about the car to really be able to help you out, but I will givr itr a shot. I will have to guess that you have a carb from the symptoms you are having. If this is the case. The cars computer makes the car idle this high when it is first started in the very cold. When the car is warmed up (should not take 10 minutes) put the car in park or neutral and "tap" the gas pedal. I dont know how else to describe this you just put your foot about halfway into it and let it out, but it all is one fast fluid motion. This should kick down the idle to something you can drive with. Good luck.

The reason why it doesnt want to shut down is your high idle, if its over around 1500 rpms(constant) youll get a diseling condition. You probably need to adjust your choke a little, (dont know how on computer controlled carbs). Its definetly to high, even for cold weather start up. get it to idle at around 1500rpms tops in cold weather.

If yours is like the 83's then there is a tiny screw down near the front passenger side of the carb. It faces the front of the car and is on the linkage under the electric choke housing. Adjusting that will change your cold idle speed. It can be tuff to reach without the right common screwdriver.
