cam change w/100K re-build?
Yeah I am planning a rebuild on my 87 iroc with the 350 tpi. It has 100 thousand on the original roller cam and I was just wondering if it and the lifters could last another round??? Is there some way you can tell once you pull it???
thanks
thanks
Remon,
Welcome aboard!
Once the cam is out, you should inspect the journals for wear, measure the journal O.D. and calculate the lobe lifts from measurement. If you have had good lubrication, the cam may very well still be serviceable.
The lifters need to be inspected very closely. While the roller and body surfaces might be in good condition, the roller axles tend to wear without any apparent problems. Internal contamination can also foul a lifter, so be very critical when examining them for re-use in your fresh engine.
While you're that far into it, this might be a good excuse to install a slightly enhanced camshaft anyway.
