Anyone familiar with Dealers Auctions?

Just wondering...a buddy of mine who has a dealers permit is going to take me to find me a Camaro...

He says you can buys a nice car that runs well for $1,000....I am thinking I could probably get a '89 for around that too.

Anyone experienced with this? Am I thinking right? What can I expect?

Thanks!

AWESOME!!! Cool.... Now I guess all I need to do is wait for my tax return, pick me out a camaro, and in the meantime figure out what insurance to go with (I'm 17 so insurance companies hate me for some reason).

save the same money for a car that you would have had to pay for from a dealer or private seller, spend the actual grand on the car and the rest will go to insurance (for one year)

As long as you have cash and do a little research, you can find some great deals there. Ususally they open the lot a day or two before for inspections and you can go and make a list of the the cars you're interested in and then look up the wholesale value in a N.A.D.A. guide (which your friend should have). Set your maximum for each one and don't get caught up in a bidding contest and go over your set price. It's best to have a couple or three cars you'd take and not get fixated on only one as someone else might have the same one in mind and things can happen really fast at these auctions. Also don't forget they'll want the cash that day.

Back in high school, I used to **** cars at a dealer auction. The one car I wish I had the chance to buy was a flawless '69 454 SS Chevelle with around 30K miles on it. It went for $2200. This was in '76 or '77 so the with the gas crunch at the time "hot rods" were not popular with the dealers... Oh well, bet we all have some "only if..." stories

'88 IROC that looks suspiciously like a Jeep.
It's like a 3rd-gen with the aerodynamics of a brick but that'll go about anywhere!
