305 combo
I plan on biulding up a 305 for my z that dont have a motor in it. I just dont know what combo to go with. i was thinking about this though.
77 lg4
8.5 compression
ported and polished 416 with stock valves
edelbrock rpm cam and intake
edelbrock 600 cfm carb
flow tech headers
Please give me your thoughts. I know its a 305 but i just wanted to be different and to get the most out of it. later i was also thinking about adding a holley 142 blower.
Thank you

The edelbrock rpm cam is too big for your planed supercharged 305.
Get a Crane HMV 278-2 .... much better.
278-290 222-234@.050" -.467-.494 114
this is an excellent blower or NOS cam for a street 305 or 350.
Naturally a low compression 305 will be a bit of a dog without the blower. Better use a very mild cam (less than 206@.050 for now, then swap in the Crane cam when you install the blower.
Use a 750cfm carb for a blown 305.
Y not upgrade the heads with larger 1.94 valves.? the stock 1.84 valves are likely toast anyways . Your giving up a lot of flow potential with the stock valve size. Cost is the same.
Budget replacement valves are not expensive. (PeP valves)
Y not just build a low compression 350 in preparation for a blower.? it will go much better. cost is the same or less.
I'd build a flat top or small dish piston 350 with your ported 305 heads and then swap on some ported 76cc 350 heads when you get the blower.
Then recover some $$ by selling off the now extra 305 heads.
to achieve the blower friendly cr.
in any case the crane cam is the better choice for either a 305 or 350 street supercharged motor with near stock heads.

There's no such thing as a 77 LG4.
If you really want a good 305, use a L69 short block, or a 86-87 LG4 one. The 87 LG4 or L69 (from a Monte Carlo) would be the best starting point, if you find one with the factory roller cam adaptation.
Do not use a 305 short block with dished pistons. If you have such a thing, throw it away; or if you're rebuilding it, either replace it with a 350 motor, or at the very least put it back together with flat-top pistons such as the Sterling (Sealed Power) hypereutectics, specifically these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=STL%2DH534P in whatever overbore your block requires.
Get rid of the stock valves in the 416s. They're suitable heads for your project, but instead, have 1.94" intake valves installed in them.
The Edelbrock ROM cam sucks, period. I wouldn't put it in anything. Use a Comp XE256H, or XE262H if you have 3.23 gears or better and a 5-speed or a 2500 RPM stall or better. If your gears are 3.08 or lower, or if you have an auto trans with less than 2500 stall, use the 256.
The RPM manifold would be fine. The car will run a whole lot better with a Holley or Demon carb. 600-650 CFM is about right for a 305.
This is for a N/A motor. There's no such thing as "thinking about adding" a blower when you're building a motor. You either build a blower motor, or you build a N/A motor. There is no combination you can build that will work at its best both ways. Things that optimize the combo for the one setup (compression, cam choice)will cripple it for the other. Make up your mind before you start; and be aware that if you optimize it for a blower it will be a lazy underpowered pig without the blower, or if you optimize it for N/A it will have too much compression to tolerate any significant boost. Also, the pistons I mentioned are great for N/A; but if you are building for a blower, get forged ones, and upgrade the rod bolts.
And finally, if you do decide to build it for the little Weiand street blower, increase the carb to a 750.
