clicking noise
Hey everyone..I'm new here. I don't know much about cars so I have a question. I have an '82 Camaro Berlinetta. About a week ago while I was driving I stopped at a red light..my "Check Engine" light came on and it died right there in the middle of the road. My dad fixed it...needed a new timeing belt thing. Anyways...ever since then when I start my car there's a clicking sound under the hood, it doesn't stop while I drive or anything...not until I shut the car off. Any ideas why??
Also...when I turn my wipers on they don't turn off unless I shut the car off first (this has happened since I got it...way before the timeing belt problem). How can this be fixed, any ideas on how much it will cost?
I'll also post a picture of my car...there's nothing special about it though, I haven't added anything, but some day I will. Well, actually... I did add the cap things that go over the bolts and stuff in the middle of the wheels (not shown in the pic though). Probably change the red on the wheels..I don't really like it..some people do and some don't. Opinions?
Thanks!!
Mellissa

well at least the clicking noise stops when you shut the car off
where exactly is the ticking coming from? was it happening before the timing chain was replaced? it could be a few things causing a ticking sound.
the wiper problem is a seperate issue, try posting in the electronics forum.

no, it didn't make the clicking noise until after the timing belt was replaced. i'm not sure where exactly it is at. I cant check right now either cause my moms van broke down so she borrowed my car for the day..
it's pretty loud too.

its a timing chain, not a belt. it is on the front of the engine underneath the timing chain cover. if thats where your clicking sound is coming from it would probably be a bad installation of the chain. Did the original chain break? there might have been some valve damage when it let go. i cant say for sure though. does it seem to be running at full power or does it feel slugish now?

Hi, I'm not sure what exactly happened to the timing chain...I just know that it had to be replaced because it didn't work...sorry, as you can tell I don't know anything about cars. It hasn't seemed to be slugish though since it was replaced though..

ok is the clicking noise coming from the front of the engine? thats the side directly across from the radiator, that is where the timing chain is under a metal cover. or does it seem to be coming more from the top/sides of the engine? does it get faster when you rev the engine? does your dad have anything he can add since he was able to replace the chain he probably knows a thing or two about the engine.

John in RI , that clicking being when you 1st turn the key on right? Sounds like a clock ticking fast if I remember right.
mellissalee03 , is it a 6 cylinder or and 8 cylinder?
BTW, welcome to the boards! You got a cool start for a 3rd gen, Berlinettas are neat! I would advise on some new rims though, or a repaint!
