Will over drive make my 4.10's gas milage better?
Will over drive make my 4.10's gas milage better?
I wanted to know if it would change my gas milage extemely bad. I have a 700r4. Do corvettes have a better overdrive ratio than others?
thanks

i know someone that has them a nd a 700r4 and doesn't gete bad milage and his engine doesn't run in higher rpm range, maybe 3100 @60, not sure. i think OD and low gears are made for each other.

Its all Simple Math.
Better Gas milage = lower rpm, SO...
a 700R4 with .7 od Ratio coupled with 4.11's and a certain Size tire will Give you a Certain RPM needed to sustain whatever speed You are looking For, say 70 mph.
a TH350 with a 3rd gear ratio of 1:1 Will Obviously Give you a higher RPM, and consequently worse gas Milage.
Now, I Could easily be wrong here, but I Belive that all 700R4;s have a .7:1 OD ratio.
So no, Your not going to bet Better Milage By switching to a Differnt 700R4.
AS far as Switching to 4.11's from what You have Adversly effecting Your Milage, Yes Its going Too. How Much ? well that all depends On what You have, and What Size tires You are Running. Essentially, How Much Higher its going to make Your Motor Need to Rev to sustain highway speed.
Its Not a Magical, Whimsical Thing, Its simple Math. Get out the calculator and Figure it out.
Hell, there is a Tool On This page that allows You To compute RPM based on all the needed Information, Go use it.
I wouldnt Run 4.11's In a daily driver sort of Car. 3.73's would be Pusing it IMO.
Im going with 3.42's.

I understand the T56 has something Like a .65 ( or is it .56 ) Final OD ratio, So yeah its going to be better than the 700R4. Go Look Up the Numbers and Do the Math, and You can get a Definate answer.
