Well, I started my car up again today, which is stored in one of those instant garages. I turned the heat on, and acorns started flying out of all of the vents!! Not just little pieces, but half acorns. I was under the impresion that the only air intake for the heating system was the screened in area under the windshield by the windshield wipers, and my screen is intact. Can anybody explain how my heater box got filled with acorns? Is there another open inlet somewhere that I forgot to cover? Do i have to take my heater box out to clean out the vents so i don't get rattling when I drive it next year?

10 to one you have a mouse somewhere in teh car and he has a nest in the heater box under the dash or under the hood. It does not take much for the little buggers to get in, if teh screeen is loose etc. The new england cold makes rodents do strange things.....

 

 

yeah sounds like some sort of animal problem. just hope they dont sleep in your blower fan lol.

 

sounds likes critters carreid them in the vents, little late now but moth ***** is suspose to keep them away

 

So do you think it is a good idea to take the heater box out in the spring and clean it out before I start driving it again? I'm already putting in new hood insulation. How hard is it to get the box out and clean it?

Apparently, someone didn't read the storage instructions...

Set up some baits and traps inside the vehicle. I suppose you could set a couple moth ***** in a plastic container on the floor somewhere, but I question their effectiveness with rodents. Tape or otherwise seal up the vents and check the seals around the doors.

Consider yourself fortunate you don't live in an area that has an elephant problem.

 

Never a concern with a SBC, everyone knows elephants are afraid of a Mouse.

 

lol, in my winter beater, there was a mouse that would run out across my feet in the morning when i turned the floor heater on...

one day, i had set my ice scraper at a handy reach, lets say the mouse didnt get very far until he met his maker...

an ice scraper is a lethal weapon.

I practically filled the car with bounce dryer sheets. I have heard that moth ***** make their presence known long after they are gone, and I don't visit the car often enough for mouse traps to be practical. I'd rather not have dead animals rotting on my floor

But are you saying that if, next year, I do a really good job taping up the screen in front of my windshield, there is no other way that anything will get into my vents?

 

They'll get in other places, like the body vents, drain holes in the floor if the plugs are missing/rotted away, dust boot for the steering column, A/C case drains, etc.

 

ouch. Maybe moth ***** would be a better alternative.

Thats the strangest acorn problem I have ever heard of.

We have giant acorn trees around us and its really hard to have a nice car / paint job.

Unless you like that golf ball dimpled look.
