Auto Xray scanner reading says I am in first gear when I am not.
I just got the scanner and scanned my car today. Everything appears to be normal except the readings about what gear my car is in. The scanner list whether I am in park or neutral, Or whether first gear or fourth gear is engaged.
Whatever gear I really am in whether it be park, neutral, 1 2 3 or 4 the scanner always says first gear is "engaged". Then it lists park/neutral as "not detected" and fourth gear as "not engaged" when it really is.
What can be causing these bad readings?

My car does the same thing. I have an 86 with an 87 PROM. The Auto X-Ray gives reversed readings on the transmission. When I put the 86 PROM in the readings are correct. I checked the 86 and 87 wiring diagrams and they are the same except for one wire. I wonder if it might be the internal wiring in the transmission. It does not seem to affect the way it runs. If I rev it to 3000 in neutral for a couple of seconds it set a code that indicates the speed and RPM do not match
