lashing valves
I just installed a new cam, (comp cams XE268). i added lifter preload using the method where when the #1 intake valve is open, adjust the #6 intake vavle, adding 1/2 turn, maybe alittle more.
when i finally fired up the motor, i had valve noise something firece. so i ran the motor for the 30min to break in the cam and lifters. then i changed the oil, and thats where im at now.
so how do i lash the valves. its almost impossible to loosen one, and tighten it untill it doens't make noise, when they all make noise.
someone help?
i need to get the car on the road tomarrow morning.

and from trying to crank it over, my battery is now dead. so maybe, after jumping it, can someone shed some light on this for me??

With intake off to watch lifters, I did mine like this:
Bring piston to TDC on the firing stroke. Opposite lifters will be rocking ( intake opening, exhaust closing). Example #1 on TDC, #6 lifters rocking. Adjust lash on both of the #1 rockers by getting a bit of turning resistance on the pushrod. Then turn down however far you want to go no more that 1 full turn. I went 1/4 turn. Most say 1/2 turn. Rotate crank 1/4 turn and do the next in the sequence.
1-6, 8-5, 4-7, 3-2, 6-1, 5-8, 7-4, 2-3

i think i got everything fixed, i went and gave all the rockers another 1/4-1/2 turn with the motor running, and the noise is all but gone, as for getting the car stared, who would have thought that with a new cam, my carb might be a little lean.
after richining it out quite a bit, it runs fine.
