I read in the camaro performance handbook, that Aluminum Corvette cylinder heads, casting number 10088113, are a good swap on a camaro 350. But will these work on a 305? The corvette heads have a 58cc cumbustion chamber and a 163cc intake runner volume. They also use standard 1.94 intake and 1.50 exaust valves.

i wanna know also, id liek to get a set for my 305 but the only thing i think is the problem is there is no EGR passeage so you wont be able to use your egr valve and they have the center bolt valve cover holes, other then that i dont know what other problems there are with them. id like to get a set instead of gettin a set of World product s/r torquer heads.

Yeah they'll work on a 305 no problem. The intake bolt pattern is the pre-86 pattern and yes there is no EGR.
I thought the egr valve was on the intake manifold.

Well it is but the recirculated exhaust has to travel from the combustion chamber through the heads. The Corvettes used an external setup which routed the gas externally back up to the intake manifold.Originally posted by johnjm22

The effective compression will be lower than with iron 58cc chambers because of the heat loss through the aluminum heads. To gain back the power lost by going to aluminum, you'd have to shave the heads to reduce the chambers by about 6cc. Remember, L98 64cc iron heads equate to 58cc aluminum heads.

i had the understanding that it would lower compression significantly, and putting 305 heads on a 350 raises the compression

The corvette heads they are speaking about are the 58cc combustion chamber heads. 305 heads have a 58cc combustion chamber. As far as the power and compression losses, it may all wash out in the end. What I mean by this is, yes it is true that all things being equal, an iron head is more efficient than a aluminum head because of the thermal efficiency. An iron head retains more heat than an aluminum head thereby aiding in the combustion process, but may the ports on this aluminum head be more efficient than the iron head? It could all equal out. Just my 2 cents.
I am in the big middle of this conversion right now.your main problems are going to be the header configuration. If you want to remain smog legal ie smog pump it really gets tough, because of angle plug and the D shaped exhaust port. Today I have been to my local speed shop and it is a tiugh match as in no shorty smog legal headers apparently exist for these heads.I have got over 600.00 in my 113 heads and cc to 55 cc per chamber and now upon further investigation headers are going to be a prob.SLP says that they do not have a header to fit this head (3 times) hooker no hedman maybe I can't get thru today.javascript:smilie('

thats strange.
i'd imagine any header that would fit those year vettes or ZZ4 would work?
I have hooker 2460's and 8113's. i haven't installed anything yet because i'm waiting until i have everything i need then knocking it out in a weekend...interesting.

The bore dia is your worst enemy on the 305's.

Yeah thats what I thought maybe 1a3/4 headers will work but SLP was very sure 3 times that they didn't have what I needed. So was hooker in the shorty models today. It would appear to me that long tubes present to much of a ground clearance prob.plus as I said earlier smog legal is for me a prob. the politicians in OK have dropped the state inspect for now but that leaves to much $$$$$ in my pocket for their wants and wishes.......

i dont think i quite follow you...
are they saying the heads/headers won't match up?
i think i'm gonna have to go home and run out to my parts shed, get everything unpacked and bolt them up.
lol
maybe i'll take a few pics.

I've always heard that with slp thirdgen headers you HAD to use the l98 angle plug or straight plug heads, not a regular angle plug head.

The bore size is different. The valves comes very close to the bore, the 1.94 comes mighty close, thats why the valves are so small on the 305. Also you will have a miss match of chamber dia, bore dia and head gaskets. There is am after market available that improves flow considerable, can't think of the name.

I think the headgasket to use for the 305+8113 heads is the Felpro 1010...i made a post about this last week.

th problem is the exhaust ports on the 113 heads are raised 0.10"..so you need special headers....who makes them, i don't know!
