Spark plugs

How tight are spark plugs supposed to be? I just tried taking one off and ended up snapping the plug in half when the socket slipped. (So now I kinda have to get that one off and replaced.)

Also.. if it turns out I can't get that one plug out... What'll happen?

Spark plugs are suposed to be tigten to 22 ft/lbs. If you don't get the broken plug out you will have a miss due to the fact your running on 7 cylinders. The plug is probably galded and seized in there, try a little WD-40 and let it sit awhile then try to get it out. When you replace the plugs use antiseize on the threads to keep this from happening.

Well, yeah.. I assumed it would miss.

What would that do though?

Obviously, it would decrease power. It would waste gas too, since it wouldn't be burning at all. What kind of affects would shooting that much fuel through the exhaust have? Would the computer go crazy? heh

But on a happier note... I did manage to get it off and replace it.

And I noticed.. the spark plugs I pulled out (Autolite) were longer than the ones I put in. (ACDelco)

The ceramic part of it was the same, but the end of it that produced the spark (past the threads was longer on the ones I pulled out.

What effect does that have?

A longer shank is a hotter range plug while one that is shorter is colder.
