Dipstick attached to Exhaust Manifold, WTF

I'm trying to pull my exhaust manifolds off and it has gone relatively easy thus far but now I have one bolt to go and there is this bracket that is welded on to my dipstick tube and mounted behind the nut on the header stud. So this stupid brakcet is rusted on to the nut and every time I try to turn the nut it bends and brings the dipstick tube with it. Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Can someone please help?

Narf the dipstick tube, and just buy a new one. Then once you have the hardware thing out, you can get it apart. When you put it back together, put some anti-sieze on it.

Of course I'm assuming you've already tried lots of soaking in PB Blaster (NOT WD-40).

hehe, you said narf.... lol

stick a screwdriver or try putting a pair of vice grips on the tab and brace them agienst the manifold so it doesnt move... then try to get the bolt off....

if that doesnt work and you dont want to get another tube (they're cheap, but its another run to the store) jsut cut the tab off..

you dont NEED the tab to hold the dipstick there.. its just a good idea.... plenty of cars (most of them with headers) run with just the tube pressed into the block.

I just cut it off, I'm getting new headers so I'll probably be running to the store for a new tube, no big deal. Thanks a lot
