Need a quick tutorial in bleeding brakes
Hey I just put in a rebuilt master cylinder, and now I have to bleed the brakes. Ive never done this.
Chiltons say RR,RL,FR,FL as the order (I have rear drums).
I was thinking, instead of watching for the air bubbles to stop, could I just pump the brakes until maybe a cup or so of fluid has come out and then assume that did it?
Also, on my drums brakes the bleed nipple is very hard to get to. Is there a special socket for loosening this?
Thanks,
Rob

Deep well 1/4 inch drive 5/16 inch socket or similar size will do the trick on the rear drums. Make sure you bleed the master cyl. before trying to bleed the brakes. Look in a Chiltons or Haynes manual for the exact procedures.

usually 2-4 tries will get the air out. i like to do a gravity bleed and then a preasure bleed. it saves a little time, but tends to make a little more mess.

What is a gravity bleed? I'm going to upgrade my brakes this summer along with some other things in the engine bay. Just wandering what's time saveing, what's easy, etc.

-700R4 (Rebuilt) Too much done to actually list
-K&N Airfilters
-Ported Plenum
-2.77 Gears (not much to brag about but eh, its there)
-MSD 8.5 mm plug wires
-Problems every other day with the car (probably not a mod, but to me it sure makes a difference)

Car: 1999 Chevy Cavalier
Engine: 2.2
Transmission: 5 speed
Axle/Gears: it's part of the transmission
I know most of us like to do things ourselfs, but midas flushed and pressure blead my brakes for $40,I replaced every brake component on my car at once so I already saved hundreds in labor fees, they wouldn't use my valvoline synthetic, but it is very tight,I have the reciept for insurance purposes (knock on wood) ,and it gives me total piece of mind.

of course you will have to do some gravity bleeding to safely get the car over there!!make sure your e-brake is adjusted!
