changing the ole valve covers

i am going to change my valve covers on my 85 tpi 305 and i just wanted to know if i HAD to change the gaskets and if i took off the valve covers would i have to mess with the cam shaft or the valves them self or any of that stuff and would it make a difference in proformance on which valve cover i got?

THANKS FOR ASKING MY MANY QUESTIONS

Well you don't have to change the valve covers, but it would be a good idea.

You won't have to disturb any of the engine's internal stuff like the cam or valves. Watch out for valve covers that are real tall or real square, especially at the ends; they may give you trouble with your accessories. They do not affect performance one iota (which is why I still have stock ones).
