Are Roll Pins Reusable?

ok i know it's not the greatest question ever asked on here and this might not even be the place to ask. i took one out the other day and got to wondering about it and couldn't find anything in any of my books. after i thought about it i figure they should be replaced each time.

Ed,

As long as the roll pin has spring tension and isn't visibly marred, go ahead and use it again. If there's any spring tension, it should resist falling right through the intended bore. Distributor gear?

no it was an oil pump. i use melling m55 pumps and change the spring with a mr. gasket #26 high preasure spring. it can only fall out one way and i staked it in place so it wouldn't. just something i was thinking about. i worry too much.

I've changed out a certain number of that exact roll pin, in that very application always with success. Roll pins are real generic, I think that one is 5/32 x 1/2 or some such, but I've never bothered, and never had one fall out on me.

Go for it.

Damn, Ed. You should have plenty of oil in the infamous "Almost V-8". That's usually enough flow and pressure for a lot more gallery and cylinder than you're working on. At least you won't starve it...
