In car rebuild
I was wondering how hard it is to do this.
I know getting the oil pan off will be a PITA,but time is not an issue,I have all winter. I want to have the crank ground and change all the bearings.

It would be about 4 times harder to do that than to pull the motor and do it right. I can't imagine how it could possibly be a good idea to do it that way.

Not trying to start an argument here.
More difficult,I agree.Time consuming also.I'got all winter to do it.

The only reason I can think of to do it in the car is that you have no means to pull the engine out and no where to put it once out.
I see you are in Highland, In. Shoot me a pm if this is the case. I may be able to help you.

Things you can't do on an in frame rebuild:
Hot tank, bore, cam bearings, deck.... more.
I've done it, not on an F body tho. Go for it! you'll change your mind within 2hrs.
It's hard enough on an engine stand.
If you have to, you can use a come along hung from a tree or maybe your garage door frame (if you're careful)

yeah any sort of real cleaning or machining will be out of the question. every piston and rod will mean a trip under the car plus you'll be wroking aginst gravity with a couple of heavy pieces and a lot of small pieces.

Hey there 88tbi4x4, you following me or what
I'm just posing a question, if it wasn't to bad I was just going to hone the cylinders have the crank ground ,put new bearings in.....I put new heads on last year and the bores looked real good, still had cross hatches, so I thought I'd just order those pistons you showed me and freshen it up.
But if it's that much of a pita i'll go the other route.

It's partly the graveyard shift deal I'm sure, and you keep asking questions that I know the answer(s) to.
So anyhow... if you start doing it in the frame, and you change your mind you can always take it out and do it the other way. What the hey... Maybe you'll go for it and start getting into it.

Think about how silly this is. In order to take the crank out you need to undo the transmission so you can take off the flexplate. Then in order to take off the oil pan you need to unbolt the motor from its mounts and lift it up.... SOOOOO, once the transmission is out, and the motor is lifted why the heck would you leave it in the car? "Its like wiping your *** before you poop ...it just dont make any sense"
