96 was the year GM planted the LT4 in the GS and Collector Edition Vettes to splash some flash on the final year of the C4.

Vettes got the LS1 in 97, the first year of the C5.

F-bods carried the LT1 through 97 model year and got LS1 in 98, after GM balanced the inventory of LT1 parts on hand.

Got that right. My 98 ran 109 mph in the 1/4 full weight including spare and jack and 270 lbs driver w/ just an airlid, MAF ends, and catback. And it gets 31 mpg on the highway at about 70 mph
