Codes cleared...same problems HELP!

Its' the "Never Ending Story"....page 12!

Runs great till it warms up. Then idle goes crazy, misses at highway speeds and quits if you sit at a light too long.(at least it will re-start easily, now....one hurdle accomplished )

If you walk behind it while its' idleing, your eyes will water....I'm sayin' its' a bit rich(do we have an emoticon for "tounge-in-cheek" )

Biggest problem is....now there are NO codes. Even when it dies. I don't know where to look from here!

I'm on the verge of taking it to a dealership or taking a match to it. Flip a coin!!!!! Either way, I'll not have to fight with it anymore!!!LOL

Heres' the list....

Replaced MAP
replaced EGR
replaced both injectors
replaced the O2 sensor(twice)
replaced the fuel filter(twice...second time was unecessary)
new plugs(properly gapped to .035)
New coil
New air filter

Update......

After about 20 minutes I went out to try it again....now it won't start. It will hit a little, then die.

Still no codes.

By tomorrow morning, I'll bet it starts and runs good 'till it warms up....then this crap starts all over again!

I just had a problem with my car dying on me when it get warm. When it would go into closed loop and the computer started reading from the sensors, it would die. My problem was I had the vacuum hoses routed incorrectly. Most notably the map sensor vacuum hose.

Don't know it this is related to your problem but I hope it helps you.

Good luck.

Bill

Yeah...been through that one with the other codes I've fought with.....now, it seems, underhood heat has more to do with it than closed loop.

I'm leaning toward the ignition module, but I'd think that would throw a code.

ATM....I'm lost!

Does the idle always go crazy before it dies?

I don't see the TPS listed. Wat until it warms up and dies, then With the key on/engine off check the idle voltage and verify that the TPS voltage increases smoothly from idle to WOT.

No, I haven't checked the TPS. Shouldn't there be a code for a faulty TPS?

Would that cause the driving speeds misses I'm experiencing?

Would it degrade with underhood temps? Runs fine cold....seems underhood temps are the main effect.

Good thought, though....is an '89 'bird running an adjustable TPS or a "bolt-in"? Curious before I go 'round tampering with it.

Next update.....

Waited 2 hours....let engine compartment cool down.

Hit the key...it fired off like nothing was ever wrong.

I'm not sure what, but something under the hood can't take the heat. Something that doesn't throw a code when it fails.

I lay my threat again.....intake, Eddie and vacuum advance would cure all my ills.....but I'm not about to be defeated....yet!

OK...replaced the ignition module. That cured the "hot start" problem, but it still cuts out and quits after you drive it. (hot or cold, and at least now it only takes about 10 minutes for a re-start! )

I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm bettin' on trash/rust in the tank stopping up the sock. The car HAS been sitting for several years.

I'm gonna' drop the tank and clean it this weekend....and yes...replace the pump(no way am I dropping the tank without changing the pump!LOL).

If I cure this, I'll report back. Let anyone who cares to know, wheather I succeeded or failed.

does it do it with a full tank of gas? I read on here about some people having to keep a large amiunt of gas in their tank due to a fuel slosh problem or something?

just a suggestion
