Need help finding out what motor this is!

It LOOKS like a pontiac 400, but I'm not sure. It's in a friends '80 Trans Am. I've got some #'s I took off the block. They are...

(0, not sure) 340567
YS

Thats exactly how it looks, casted under the drivers side head where an accessory normally sits.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Look at the intake manifold. If it looks like it sits up off of the block and there's a sheet metal cover under there, it's not a Chevy. If it's not a Chevy, then:

If the valve covers have 4 bolts, it's a Pontiac; probably a 400.

If the valve covers have more than 4 bolts, it's an Olds 403.

Engine choices in a 1980 T/A were 301 or 4.9 Turbo. 1979 was the last year for the 400 Poncho & 403 Olds motors.

350, 400, and 455 poncho blocks have displacement numbers cast into the block on driver's side near the front freeze plug, and sometimes on the opposite side of the block..

Well, it does have the raised manifold with the cover over the lifter valley, and 4 valve cover bolts.

Does anyone know the link to that site with all the casting #'s and years? He's trying to fine a new timing setup for it, double roller. The chain is popped and the cam gear is missing teeth.

If yall could help me find the closest possiable year and what it came in, you guys would F**KIN ROCK!

Ok, we looked and it says it's a 400. Now, what year was the poncho 400 available in the Firebird/Trans am's? He's trying to find parts for the motor and needs to know as close as possiable to the year. Poncho 400's ran from what? 75-79 right?

MORE IMPUT GUYS!!! Thanks!!

400s were available from 64 to whenever.

There's only one timing set, that fits all Pontiacs from their first V8 in 55 until they were discontinued.
