Hi all, Just got the baby fired back up after 4 weeks out in the very very wet and frosty scottish wildness, Unfortunatly it cant be garaged at the moment. The check engine light is comming on and it wont idle. Any one got any ideas where I should start? Idle control valve likely?

Need to find out what the SES light is coming on for. Jump the A-B terminals on the ALDL, turn the key on (not the engine) and see what the SES light blinks out. Should blink out a code 12 three times before it starts blinking the trouble code.

 

Some info about the car would also be helpful. Year engine that kinda stuff.

 

ehh.. yeah sorry. 89 firebird GTA- 5.7 tpi. (i think thats it)

Will try the short the connectors today.

Idle Air control could be your problem. You might want to pull it off and see if its stuck closed. If its all carboned up you might be able to clean it and get it to work.
