Roller Pushrods

Hey all what is the difference between the pushrods used in the Corvette L98 with the guide plates and the L98 (iron heads) with roller cam and no guide plates. I understand any time we use plates we use hardeded rods. Did the vette have hardened rods?

Thanks

Are you sure the Vette(113) heads came stock with guideplates? I thought GM went to SA rockers in '86 or so for everything.

I just went to Scoggin Dickeys website and looked this:

http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=277&pid=147

Notice it says "must use SA Rockers"..

Could it be the ones you have, were worked on by someone else?

The guide plates in L98 aluminum heads are merely for assembly purposes ONLY. They arent hardened, and can NOT be used with non-self aligning rockers.

And so the mystery is revealed.

Now why the heck would you need guideplates for assembly?

Well thats my problem I am using S/A rockers and they are rubbing on the retainers. I think the ridges where the roller hits the valve is letting it too far down on the valve retainers.

Since we are on the subject of S.A Rockers..Anyone know if the following head required a SA Rocker GM#14101128(I believe it is a 86-87 Corvette Alum Head)

Thanks.

Yes, they should be S/A as well. But, if you put in guide plates and hardened pushrods, you can run non-S/A's.
