Third or Fourth?
I have a problem here. I want an f body but that's where the problem is. I like the 3rd generation Camaro's but not the 4th. I love Trans Am's no matter what year they are. I don't know which i should get though. I'm saving up my money to buy one of these three cars. I would prefer the newer 6 speed transmission to the older 5 speed. I really don't know what to do here though. I'm almost certain i'm going to get a 4th generation Trans Am but the 3rd generation Camaro's and Trans Am's kick ***. Anyone here want to help me out with reason why one or the other is better?

depends how much money you got, stock for stock 4th gens are faster, especially the 98+ ls1 6 speeds, if your set on a manual tranny car the only stock 3rd gen to have a manual tranny is a v6 or 305 v8 car, the 5 speeds are pretty weak and dont hold up too well behind a 350 or anything with ***** for that matter.. the later t-56s in the 4th gens are pretty f'in strong and hold up well and the engines, either lt1 or ls1 make way more power in stock form, the ls1 being extremely fast for a stock car, most are able to hit around 13.2 in a quarter mile in stock trim as apposed to the fast stock 3rd gens which normally run around 14.5 or higher depending on 305 or 350. ls1 can hit 11's quite easily with some bolt ons. As far as not liking 4th gen maros.. i'll admit i dont like 93-97.. but you dont like 98-02 maros?
where do you get your crack? can you hook me up with your dealer?

Since this board is called "thirdgen", as in "3rd generation", the obvious answer is "third".
We all freely admit that forth gen drivetrains are superior. The good news is that they fit in 3rd gens with minimal trouble (expense may be a different question). Our engine swap and transmission forums discuss them all the time.
Even the Proving Grounds recognize the benefits of 3rd gens ( http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...htp_realworld/ ).
So, there really isn't any need for any more discussion here.
(Is there a smilie for throwing away the key???
