Hi havent posted for a while have been busy. Thought i would try once again and see if anyone had any ideas for this darn knock sound that i have and have had forever. Ok i will start at the begining. Car when cold sounds like it has a bearing knock. Sounds exactly like a bearing knock actually. New engine. New clutch, Different 5-speed. No compuer controlling anything anymore. Car is now starting to do it longer than before but will still go away once it gets really hot. Or is it is a really hot day outside. I have tried and checked motor mounts, checked to make sure the exhaust is not hitting anything. Checked endplay on input shaft on tranny, replaced fuel pump drive shaft and fuel pump. and tons of other things. No idea where this is comming from and it is driving me crazy. I have been driving my Nova just so i dont have to listen to the damn thing. the knock seems to keep in pace with engine rpm and will not do it at normal idle. the engine is a crate engine and is brand new less than 3K on it. Car does haul *** now though so that is good. Gas mileage not to bad. Thanks for all the help in the past guys if you have any ideas at all i would love to hear them. Oh the only thing i thought of is there any way that the exhaust could have something inside it with bad tollerances that could make such a noise? ie. the exhaust manifolds somewhere? Oh and i have gutted the heat riser and welded its hole shut to just to try things. I have tried a lot of things. Well thanks for listening.

Mods- IROC Front and rear anti sway bars with energy suspension endlinks and i also added the wonderbar, No exhaust after the Cat though fell off and to cheap to buy a 3 incher yet so I have to be quiet. Fourth Gen seats now. LM1 350 Crate engine!!! Good no more LG4 evil bad naughty things. Still seem to get descent Gas mileage. All major computer stuff hooked up and running good.

Brand spanking new crate engine. i to though piston slap hence the new engine but the old engine and the new one sound exactly the same.

 

I had a problem Once, where One of the crank Counterweights was Contacting the Oil Pan.

Sounded EXACTLY like Rod Knock


and went away when the Motor Warmed up.

This Happend after rebuilding the Block For Spinning a Rod, So of Course we Thought the Worst.

Luckly, My buddy put his hand up to the Pan with it Running, and could feel It.

We Fixed it with the use of a Deeper than stock Pan, and a Thicker, One peice Gasket.

I will check that out on mine. That is a weird thing to have happen but who knows. Mine wasnt rebuilt though it was brand new and the old engine did it to. I will check in that general area maybe the trans mount? Any other ideas?
