Victims of mileage
(accidently posted this in the TPI Forum ,but i'll try here as well)
I am curious as to what parts are the first to begin detioriorating due to increased milieage. My car is an 89 Iroc with an L98 and 700r4 trans with 2.77 gears. I got a job offer that would cause me to comute and extra 10-15(I now drive 3 miles each way) miles each way each day. I am trying to weigh the increase in pay against the wear on the car. All but maybe 2 miles each way would be down the highway during non-rush hour (2-10shift). The car has 91,000 miles on it now and is running great, was very well maintained by the previous owner, and i would like to think that i am just as diligent. Thanks for anything.

Well if I where you I would take the job man.. those extra miles would actually do your engine some good.. 3 miles is not even enough for it to get good and hot. If you are concerned about putting on more miles on the car, find another means of getting to and from work, and use the Camaro less.

gaskets is the first thing that comes to my head...
but usually all n all, if you take care of your car
ie: grease your suspension/steering systems, change filters/oil/tranny fuild/filterair cleaners, plugs, etc and not beat the car while diriving it it will return the favor in reliabilty..
not saying it will live forever, some parts will wear out internally eventually... bearings will go, seals, valvetrain components, numerous things inside the transmission could just go out due to wear n tear...
best bet is to change your oil regularly and all you can do is really wait til something happens... not to jinx you or anything

well thanks i guess i'll just keep up and check everything regularly, i just fear things that i can't really check like you said transmission stuff, maybe wheel bearing wearing b/c of the added miles but not needing to do brakes b/c they are highway miles so i would not notice that. Well thanks again and i'll just keep my fingers crossed and try to keep it calm after the toll boothes lol
