Hidden engine light problem......help!

I recently bought a 91 Z28 w/ a 5.7l engine. The seller told me that occasionally while he was driving it the check engine light would come on and the engine would suddenly just idle and would stay that way until the car was turned off. He said that when it happened he would pull off the road and shut the engine off for a few minutes, then when he would restart the engine it would be fine. I have driven the car about 200 miles since i bought it and have not had any problem yet. How can I fix this from happening? The seller said he thinks it is a loose wire connection somewhere. If this is the case, where would it be?

Pull the codes from the ECM first then come back and tells us what you found. You really diagnose the problem with the info provided so far...
