AIR & EGR removal

my friend has a 1986 iroc z28 with a quadrajet that we are going to be replacing with a edelbrock AVS carb this coming week but we figured before we do that we are going to remove all the AIR pollution equipment and cap all the vaccuum lines and remove the EGR and get a block off plate for the manifold are we gonna run into any problems?

Could you post pics and supply details on how and what parts to remove when eliminating the AIR pump.

Thanks in advance.

get a shorter belt, and remove the pump. this is a good time to get headers. but otherwise, jsut remove the pump. I can't remember if it has anything to do with the charcoal can, i don't think so. it's a pretty easy mod to do though.

yeah its pretty easy if ur replacing the manifolds with headers that dont have the air tubes. even easier if u dont have cat since u dont have to worry about those airtubes eother.

basically the big black box next to heater control vavle can come out and just tape the two eletrical connectors somewhere out of the way.

next pull the pump pulley, then remove the belt, then unbolt the two bolts holding in the pump. its pretty straight forward and anything that connects to the black box or air pump or manifolds can come out like the big air hoses,etc..

if i removed egr on my tpi engine i will get a code (ses on) and i would need to disable it in the computer chip.
egr is one thing i want to keep.

the air system and carcoal canister dont seem to be to much related at all.

remember when replacing a computer controlled carb with a non-computer controlled carb you need to replace the CC dist with a non-CC dist

CC distributor?

What happens if you leave the CC distributor on there? I am putting a non-CC carb on my LG4, but I would like to know if anything will happen if I try to start it. Also, is it possible to remove all computer control from the engine, and what all would this involve?

Adam
