What probs water in fuel causes?

What are some of the problems that water in the fuel might cause? Just wondering because the other day I was headed home and it would sort of lose some rpms and power for maybe .5 seconds every 3 seconds while cruising on the interstate, and I wondered if that could be caused by water, or sticking float, among other problems the car has. The car had been sitting for 2 weeks in the arctic Iowa winter. The problem went away after an hour or so. BTW it's an 86 LG4 carbed car.
Thanks

usually causes it to misfire, los power or not run at all. you can buy water remover from parts stores so just try a bottle.
