hesitation and stallin.
Ive been having a little trouble with stalling and hesitation.
It hesitates when its about to go into 4th gear?(75mph?) The rpms jump around and it seems like it doesnt wanna shift or something I stomp it and nothing happens. If I do some footwork I can get it to work. Any ideas?
2nd problem.
My choke had to be adjusted to its always open. When my car idles under 500 while driving once in a while at a light or something the car stalls. Not everytime but once in a while. Usually after its been sitting for a few hours without being completly warmed up.
Im thinking the low idle/stalling problem could either be the choke or the alternator? Am I right? Should I just stick a 650 holley double pumper on there? And how would that affect anything? Does it have a choke like mine? Maybe one that actually functions?

Nate,
I think we can blame Lenin and Marx more than Stalin....
Anyway, what would you want to go backward in carburetion? The Quadrajet meters fuel much better than the Holley, and outflows it - Period. I'd suggest repairing what you have rather than replacing it. If you think you have fuel problems now, installing a Holley 650 is going to be a real adventure in tuning, plus rewiring, replacing distributors, etc.
Get your choke operational. Clean and lubricate the linkages. Make sure the choke heater is grounded and getting power from the choke relay. Are you getting any warning lights?

well the choke light is on. But it might be either from the choke or the alternator right? I dont have any other warning lights. like check engine isnt on anymore. replaced ecm fuse and it went away.

The first tep is to verify you have a reliable ignition system. Remove, clean, and gap the plugs )or replace them), test the plug wire resistances and inspect them for cracks, burning, or other damage, inspect the distributor cap and rotor, and check the base timing. Once that's done, if the problems still exist you likely have a fuel delivery problem. Make sure the oxygen sensor is activ. Clean teh carburetor and replace teh fuel filter. Get eh choke working, then set the curb and high idle speeds. Set the MC solenoid and TPS voltage on the carb, and you should be set. If you cannot set the MC solenoid, you may need to disassemble, clean, and rebuild the carb.

well as to your reply I just about know how to change the plugs. Did it the first time the other day actually. It was pretty easy. Theyre gapped at like .45 or something. that sound right?
Sometime soon Im gonna be replacing the alternator to see if the light comes back on.

I got my alternator and battery tested today. The guy at autozone said my alt. was putting out something like 14 or 15 and he said it was fine. He said my battery could be replaced so I replaced it, and then I replaced all my messy wiring with re-cut and connectors. Ought to be alot better now! I hope. I guess after 20 min of driving tommorow night on the way to work with my system on Ill know. Cuz thats how my car died in the first place.
