If I remember I was able to hold the balancer while using the puller.
Try covering the main bolt on the puller with anti-seize.
If nothing else works, you either have to put on a flex/flywheel and use a flex/flywheel turning tool, or some sort of belt grip deal on the balancer.

Is the starter still on the engine? Buddy of mine took vise grips and put them onto the flywheel. It then made contact with the starter and stopped the motor from turning.
Just an idea.

Impact wrench= bad idea
I actually did finally get it off. what was happening was the removal tool was trying to thread itself into the crank threads, and ended up stripping the **** out of the end of the bolt. went to sears and got another one (good ole' craftsman) and it came with an attachment that mine didn't have that goes on the front of the puller bolt. came off real easy then. thanks for any suggestions
