engine ping

my camaro has an 85 tpi 305. i have noticed that the ping is a little louder than what it use to be. could it be my timing advance or could it be that the rocker arms need to be adjusted? i get about 10 mpg right now and i know that it has to do with the ignition. it runs strong but i think it has lost a little power. i use to get 14 mpg. the car had a comp cam added to it before i bought it. the sticker on the car says the # is 225-21. i tried to find the number on the net but no luck. could it be a computer controlled cam? it said that i AFPR is required. Could the engine not have enough fuel to burn? I need some help because this is confusing to find out what it is.

there is no ecm controled cams. if it says you need a AFPR and you don't have one that might be a clue. you might want to back the timing off a bit and run more octane.

i found out that my engine needs a new knock sensor. that would explain a lot. i got a code 43. i think this has to do with it. i got another code, # 44. Is this the one that refers to the mass air flow sensor? my sensor runs fine. if i unplug it the maf sensor the engine runs like ****. i remember one time i forgot to plug it back in so it could have stored the code. if i unplug the memory wire to the computer it should delete this, right otherwise i am sure that there is no prob with the maf sensor.
