took a new TA for a spin...
well, today i had to drive 175 miles back to my hometown from where im going to school, soley because i got pulled over christmas break for having a headlight out, and had forgot to put my insurance cards in my car(not good) so i had to go to court to show the guy... anyways, i decided to treat myself for driving so far, so on the way back i stopped by a pontiac dealership to 'test drive', hehe, a new TA. after telling the dealer i had some graduation & scholorship money to spend , and thought i might want a new car, he quickly took me to the big dog of them all,, a 6 speed TA. after just a minute, he asked if i wanted to drive it, and never to turn down a good chance, said yes! so.. he drove it out of the lot, and promptly got on it, hard. it pulled quite hard(obviously) up through 3rd gear.. about this time he let me get in the drivers seat. i took it out on the highway and was crusing quite nicely in 4th gear at 70mph.. the left lane was open so i thought i'd see what kind of highway accel it had, so i pull out, punched it and ... it didnt feel like it was pulling that hard, so i looked down at hte speedo and wow.... im doing 95
he started laughing and we agreed quickly that it has definately got sufficient pick up. i dunno though..i've never driven anything that fast before(i have a 74 camaro with a very mild 383), but i wasnt terribly impressed with it. yea, it got moving quick... but i mean my friends dad's '93 supercharged lincoln mark8 (weighing 4k lbs) felt just the same , if not harder, on accel. also.. he said it was the lt1 engine, i looked, and its all aluminum? was he wrong? i thought they were using ls1's on the new f-bodies? this hasn't been terribly technical.. so ill throw in a question..has anyone driven a new one, that has a thirdgen f-body also, and the thirdgen is quicker? what setup do you have? i swear, i love my 74 to death, party because me and my grandfather bought it together to be my first sports car(drove, and still have, an 89 accord as my first car), so it'd kill me to sell it, but it weighs soo much even though ive taken lots of extra steel off it.. kind of depressing when im tryin to make it faster, its an uphill battle. oh well, ive been ranting for a while, what you guys think?

All the new ones have the LS1, and they are deceptively fast. Ive driven a few in the past couple years, and a thirdgen would easily get smoked by one. Check out LS1.com sometime, look at the times these guys are posting. Yes, they are for real. You would need to do some decent mods to get to the point where you could beat one.
That said, last Friday I took one out. Heh. Had to do it three times too, he apparently didnt get the point the first time. Wasnt driving my thirdgen though.

yea.. i mean, i know for sure that my abilities take the car, especialy the 6 speed, no where near its capabilities, but the initial and oh-so-wonderful snap of accel didnt get me in the neck like i thought it would, hehe

Mine didn't seem that fast until I got the RPM up above 4500 RPM, then these things pull hard!!

Not as hard as your kawi though
No matter how much i love my camaro...the second i hop back on my 94 zx7r i remember just why i bought it. God it feels nice to go that fast. 0-60 in less then 3 seconds...you just cant beat that.
