head rebuild on a 1992 RS
Hello guys,
I want to see if anyone can give me some advice....I just bought a 1992 camaro rs with tbi injection. The car is real quick but puffs white smoke like crazy. I fixed all the body and it is preped to paint but I want to fix the smomke first. Does anyone know how much it is to rebuild heads?? I do have some mechanical knowhow...I can take it apart but IM not sure how to put together the valves and springs. Any suggestions. The engine has about 190,000 miles.

unless you are going to port and polish the heads it would be worth it to take them to a machine shop. the white smoke could be a cracked head or blown gasket or worse a cracked block. A machine shop could clean them magnaflux for cracks and do a 3 angle valve job It cost me 80 dollars a box of donuts and had 4 guides replaced. If the need to be decked because they are worped they can do that too. There isnt alot that can be done at home unless you have a machinist shop in your house. good luck...The donuts are a great idea.....builds repor and long lasting friendships and a discount now and then.

I wouldn't put a single penny into those crap heads, if they're still the original ones.
Get a set of 081 heads, off of a 87-up LG4, L69, or LB9. Work those instead.
